The catastrophic weather events of the past year demand that we grapple with the realities of an increasingly unpredictable global climate brought on by our ongoing dependence on fossil fuels. Category four hurricanes in Florida and Nova Scotia, deadly floods in Pakistan, and historic heat waves in Europe are just some of the recent climate disasters that are the result of our continued dependence on harmful fossil fuels. This reliance not only threatens lives through climate change, it can also lead to economic volatility, energy insecurity, and geopolitical conflict.
